We see so many times that people are experiencing Boudoir for their first time, understandably so it can be a daunting experience! I mean... we are only asking you to come into a brand new place, with brand new people, and asking you to bend and pose in all of these seemingly awkward positions. A lot of times half-way underdressed.... No pressure right?! :)
Top 5 tips we provide as your Boudoir specialist
1. You're not supposed to be the expert, That's why we are here!
One of the most rewarding things that we get to experience as photographer's is watching someone settle into the flow, creativity and creation of art that comes along with a Boudoir photography shoot. We'll walk you through everything from the types of clothing to wear, what you should do before / after your shoot, how to pose and move and everything else involved. We've got you covered and promise that by the time it's all over, you'll be asking when the next one is going to be and leaving the studio feeling like a million bucks!
2. Stretch, loosen up, and then stretch some more
When we ask our clients what is something they didn't expect after their boudoir photography shoot, they generally say "That was more of a workout than I expected". During your photo shoot you will be transitioning into and out of numerous positions and poses. We find that when our clients perform some stretching before hand they are much more comfortable getting into the poses during the session. We are definitely not asking you to go sign up for extreme yoga or pilates before your photo shoot (by all means if you want to!), some light stretching or gentle yoga will be just fine.
3. Purchase and try on your outfits!
Let's be honest... one of the hidden gems about a boudoir shoot is that it gives permission to buy some new lingerie, right?! Shhhhh ;) Don't worry either, we'll be right by your side to make sure you get everything you want and need for an amazing boudoir session. All of that being said, it is absolutely critical that you try on your outfits before you arrive to shoot with us! You want to make sure they really fit you properly, accenuate your figure, and most of all make you feel empowered and sexy! It'll make your experience and the boudoir session overall much more pleasant and free flowly. A great outfit choice can make the difference between a good boudoir photography session and an AMAZING one.
4. Take care of your skin
A few days ahead of your shoot it'll be important that we pay attention to the skin by hydrating and exfoliating. By drinking the proper amount of water and utilizing moisturizing lotions we give our skin the ability to really smooth out and nourish itself before the shoot. Exfoliating will get rid of the dead skin and/or roughness that may be present, especially around the joints such as our knees and elbows.
5. Last but definitely not least - Keep Calm and Relaxed!
The reality of it is, unless you've done a Boudoir Photography Session numerous times which many of our clients do, you're going to be nervous. That's fully expected and completely normal as you're expanding your comfort zone and growing yourself. It's best to recognize this and accept it as normal, we'll be there to help you relax and enjoy the company you're in. People have many different mechanisms for relaxing - yoga, meditating, having a glass of champagne / wine, reading a book - whatever yours is feel free to do so before your shoot. The natural beauty you possess will be more present as you relax, we are here to capture those moments with you!
Until next time, please don't hesitate to contact us if you're interested in your next Boudoir session or have questions.
